introduction

Fake Friday is an increasingly popular term used to describe the Friday before (the real) Black Friday.

Black Friday 2024 falls on Friday November 29th. Meaning "Fake Friday" falls one week before, November 22nd 2024.

With this year’s 2024 shopping period being the shortest shopping season since 2019, the hunt for gifts and the aggression to maximise revenue for advertisers is paramount for both advertisers and consumers alike.

December - A Shorter Shopping Surge

With 5 fewer days after Cyber Week this year, every day in December will be worth more.

Worldwide Trending Searches for Black Friday

Interestingly, for the past 5 years on Google through worldwide searches, the term “When is Black Friday” actually peaks around Fake Friday.

The impact of Black Friday itself has weakened with more of us using a longer shopping cycle across Nov-December to make our purchases and do our research.

4 Key Considerations To Prepare for Black Friday

Here are 4 ways you can take action now to be prepared for the Black Friday / Christmas season.

1 - Build up your plans and integrate tests (creatives / audiences / campaigns)

2 - Have a solid tracking foundation to measure and track performance to repoptimise.

3 - Utilise the power of AI to optimise campaigns, fast.

4 - Differentiate from your competitors and really analyse your USPs / show value to your end user (copy / ads / creatives)

This truncated season will intensify competition, with brands vying for consumer attention and dollars in a shorter timeframe. More information on that here.

Black Friday as we know today is becoming a global phenomenon. However, did you know, its historical roots actually lie in Philadelphia, where the term was initially used to describe the heavy and disruptive  traffic that used to take place after Thanksgiving.

Nowadays in its modern sense, Black Friday as a term is used heavily in the US and is spreading across Western markets, very gradually. In the Middle East, many markets have also started picked up the term and the shopping trend. Some businesses have even chosen to create their own colour Friday! It will be interesting to see where searches and behaviours go for Fake Friday :).
